The right tools for the job

By Rebecca McCaffry

Ever tried to eat jelly* with chopsticks?

Not very efficient, is it? A spoon would be a much more practical choice.

Yet finding the right tool for the job isn’t always straightforward. This is why we’ve launched the CGMA ‘Essential Tools for Management Accountants’.

To start with, we’ve produced a book summarising over 20 tried and tested management accounting tools supported by more detailed online content, including case studies and the facility to rate and discuss each tool. Some you’ll be very familiar with; others you may not have thought about since your student days; but all are well established tools and techniques to support sustainable business success. Have you used a tool that you think should be included? Visit the site and let us know.

This is just the start of an ongoing project - we’re aiming to develop a comprehensive one-stop-shop of management accounting tools, recommended, reviewed and rated by the people who use them.
And that, fellow CGMA, means you!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a bowl of jelly to finish.

*‘Jello’ to my American colleagues.
