Rajiv D. Banker receives CGMA-sponsored AAA Lifetime Contribution Award

San Juan, Puerto Rico – The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA), have named Rajiv D. Banker, Merves Chair and Director of the Center for Accounting and Information Technology, Fox School of Business, Temple University, as recipient of the 2017 AAA Lifetime Contribution Award.

The award recognizes professionals who have made significant contribution to management accounting education, research and practice. It is sponsored by the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation, which was created in 2012 by the AICPA and CIMA to elevate the role of management accounting globally.

Banker was honored for his extensive research and teachings on information technology, performance measurement and incentive compensation, and the development of new analytical methods for productivity and efficiency evaluation. He was presented with the award at the 2017 AAA Management Accounting Section mid-year conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Murray Lindsay, chair of the selection committee for the award and Professor of Accounting at the University of Lethbridge (Alberta, Canada), and a past president of the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association commented:

“Professor Banker is internationally recognized as a leader in interdisciplinary research. His teachings and research on information technology, strategy and management are especially noteworthy in relation to this award, reflecting the mission of the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation to promote the science of management accounting on the global stage.”

Banker has chaired and served on committees of several professional institutions, and has also served as editor and on advisory boards of leading research journals in information systems, accounting and operations management. He has been a guest faculty and lecturer at a number of leading universities around the world, and has also supervised many doctoral students placed at prestigious research universities.

Banker has received numerous awards for his research and has published more than 150 articles in research journals including Management Science, Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Communications of ACM, IEEE Transactions in Software Engineering, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, and Econometrica.

He holds a doctorate in business administration, with a concentration in planning and control systems, from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science with Highest Honors from the University of Bombay, India.
