Ikea, the Swedish furniture retailer, sees plenty of opportunity in technology. It already sells seemingly every imaginable component of a household – so why not make software that ties it all together? As Katharine Schwab reports for Fast Company, Ikea already has launched a smart lighting system and accompanying app. Now its innovation lab, Space10, is surveying customers about artificial intelligence. The early results of its “Do You Speak Human?” project indicate that people may prefer AI that mimics human behavior and responds to users’ emotions. The company will share the results for discussion and eventually incorporate its findings into product design, Schwab reports.
