When a positive outlook can be bad

The intuitive response for a boss hearing rampant negativity among the workforce is to find something positive to focus on instead. That’s not the best way to go, writes Peter Bregman in the Harvard Business Review. Being positive in the face of someone being negative is argumentative, and arguing rarely solves a problem. There’s a balance to strike when dealing with negativity, though, so counter with some empathy first. Don’t try to fix it immediately; just listen.
